It's a fabulously sunny day in Falmouth. The perfect day for drinking a jug of pink wine, or even a glass of prosecco.  Although we don't have the on street 'frontage' at Dolly's we have gorgeous Georgian windows which look down on the street so we can people watch without being watched ourselves - although Dolly thinks the students the flats opposite may have caught her dancing to Donna Summer last week in her own personal tribute to the Disco Diva.  We have yet to see her 'throwing any shapes' to the Bee Gees but fear it is only a matter of time - especially as her partner in crime, Kev, is on Falmouth Express from Paddington.

Dolly, Holly and Wendy attended the speakeasy cocktail night at 8 Bar on Monday.  Holly and Wendy took on the speed daiquiri challenge - there is a video somewhere yet to surface.  Luckily neither of the are at all competitive so when they didn't win (it was very close) there was no quibbling about the timings or anything like that.  The fact they could drink the daiquaris did appease the situation slightly!  The next one is tequila which would get messy.....

Well what a week it's been at Dolly's.  Tears and laughter and we have been up and down like a lady of the nights undergarments!  We have had so many lovely compliments from customers who have found us and love the Dolly's experience.  A lady today told us at great length how wonderful her scones are (she puts a whole egg in the mixture!) - and then she had to concede that ours were even better which made Holly go a bit pink and beam with pride.... Tears from Dolly's previous life at the vets when one of her favourite woofers went to doggy heaven.  She was a gorgeous little dog called Pandora and there is a very amusing story about a bit of confusion via a text message to Dolly when The Pandora caught fire.  Laughter and relief all round at the discovery that corn cushions offer instant relief (Dolly has her first ever corn which is apparently rather painful!).  And even more laughter at Holly's Old Fashioned Collapsing Chocolate Cake.  It tastes wonderful - just doesn't look like one of Jane Asher's!

Visitors are arriving by the bus load.  Amelia's parents tomorrow, Kev and Robbie on Thursday (Kev gave us the idea of cocktails in teapots) and Sarah's parents the weekend after.  Looks like the season is about to begin.

Finally, after weeks of deliberation we have put the Cornish Crab Sandwich on the menu.  We are serving it with a horseradish mayonnaise, but you can have it with just plain mayo if you like.  Ron from the Falmouth Bookseller likes it just with malt vinegar and we are happy to do that too......  He has roadtested it for us - delicious.  Lovely Ruth is having her Phd viva today - we are wishing her lots of luck (not that we really understand what it is and how it works.  My Mum had a Vauxhall Viva in about 1977 and that's about all I know about a viva).  We are hoping she will be here this evening drinking lots of Prosecco in celebration.

We are blaming the yucky weather today on Wendy, who decided yesterday it was time to get her Summer wardrobe out.  So, soup is back on the menu, Pea, Mint and Butterbean and also Tomato and Red Lentil.  We will also be experimenting with Trifle for the jubilee.  We want to create our own Dolly's Trifle but Holly is nervous about going against the recipe.  Once we have persuade her that the Trifle Police do not exist we will start!

There were lots of disappointed customers today as Hebe had taken the day off and gone to St Mawes on the ferry.  She had a lovely time by all accounts.  Our next wine of the month will be Brazilian (oh the marketing puns are endless).  Holly has drawn the most amazing Rio Carnival lady on the blackboard in anticipation.  We'll let you know the date of arrival as soon as.
The sun is streaming in through the windows of our gorgeous tea room and Nina Simone is singing her heart out.  Hebe has her head poked out of the open one and is woofing gently at the good folk of Falmouth who are wandering through town.  Holly is creating wonderful blackboards for outside and Dolly is drinking Jasmine Pearl tea and wondering when she'll be allowed to sample the Baked New York Cheesecake.

June edition of Vogue is here, as is Harper Bazaar, Elle, Elle Deco and today's Falmouth Packet!

Today's cakes are a stunning Victoria Sponge with lashings of cream and fresh strawberries and a slightly collapsing Caramelised Banana Toffee Cake.  In the pipeline are Chilli Chocolate Brownies and Holly is crystallising edible pansies!
